One of the biggest challenges in college is finding an internship. Internships are such an important part of your college experience. They give you an edge on your resume and can lead to potential careers post college. But where do you find them?

School Email: Lots of schools, including Rutgers, start emailing you about internship opportunities once you declare your major and minor. This is great because all of these internship opportunities have to do with your major and minor and you already know they are pre-approved. I get emails a few times a week and a lot of them are about internships I’d actually be interested in.

Career Services Website: All schools have a career center and all those career centers have a website. Rutger’s Career Knight is awesome for finding internships. You can upload your resume and cover letter right onto there and it already has your GPA and class ranking.

Career Knight has hundreds of internships listed and they let you know how well of  a match you are for that internship. Companies can schedule interviews right through Career Knight. If you haven’t checked out Career Knight yet, I highly suggest you do. ( Career Knight is how I found Uloop!)

Network: Who you know has a lot to do with getting a job post college so start early and use your connections to see if anyone you know works for a company that is looking for an intern. Maybe your cousin’s firm is looking for an intern or one of your professors is looking for a research assistant for the summer. There are lots of opportunities available for you if you just ask.

LinkedIn: Linkedin is known as the “professional” social media and it is great for expanding your network and can potentially help you find an internship. Connect with everyone you know from old co-workers to professors to your parents. The bigger your network, the better.

Search internships on LinkedIn and you’ll get a huge results list. Lots of companies have people on LinkedIn looking for interns so don’t be afraid of connecting with or messaging someone who works for a company you are interested in.

Online: The good old internet. You can always search ” Political Science Internships” or whatever field you want to intern in on Google and you are bound to get lots of results. Google may not be as reliable as your school email but you can still find lots of great things on there. There are also lots of websites out there such as InternQueen which are there to help you find internships.

I hope this helps!
